Welcome to the Physics Show!

The Physics Show of the Uni Bonn

Our “Physikshow” aims to inspire children and adults alike to learn about physics. In our shows, we present entertaining and educational experiments in a clear and easy-to-understand way. The performances are generally intended for all children aged 12 to 99, but younger visitors often have just as much fun as the older ones.

Zukunftsenergien – Zukunftsmusik? 2025
On October 25 and 26, the new physics show musical “Zukunftsenergien – Zukunftsmusik?”, or phyusical for short, will premiere in the Wolfgang Paul Lecture Hall at the University of Bonn. The 75-minute show combines theater, live music, and live experiments in an energetic performance. The phyusical is aimed at anyone aged 12 and over with no special prior knowledge. The play was written by Dr. Jana Heysel and performed by members of the physics show, a dedicated group of physics students at the University of Bonn led by Prof. Herbert Dreiner. The musical is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space in the Science Year 2025 – Energy of the Future.
PLANETAMOS – The Physics Show Musical 2025
The world’s first physics show musical returns to the big stage on 27 March to 30 March, 2025. In two entertaining hours, the physics show musical offers the audience interesting facts about our blue planet with live music, live singing and lots of humor.
Christmas Physics Show 2024
Physics professor Scrooginger doesn't think highly of other people: Colleagues are ungrateful, PhD students are lazy and students are dumb. So what should Scrooginger think of all the ghosts who appear just before Christmas, along with physics experiments? The show “Eine physikalische Weihnachtsgeschichte” (“A Physics Christmas Carol”) will be performed on 19.12.2024 at 5 pm in the Wolfgang-Paul lecture hall.
What’s (the) matter? 2024
The internationally successful particle physics show “What's (the) matter?” will be performed in Bonn on September 14 and September 15! With magical umbrellas, the two main characters go on a journey through space and time: from the structure of atoms to particle accelerators and the detection of the Higgs particle.

About us

The Physics Show was founded in December 2001 by Professor Herbert Dreiner and Michael Kortmann at the Physics Institute of the University of Bonn. Since 2002, the Physics Show has regularly performed numerous entertaining physics experiments, accompanied by an exciting storyline for young and old alike. Since 2004, the Particle Physics Show has been providing exciting insights into particle physics for a slightly older and international audience. In 2019, our “phyusical” debuted as – to our knowledge – the world’s first physics show musical. In addition to these three main shows, several special shows also regularly find their way onto the stage, such as the annual Christmas show.

The shows are written, organized, and performed independently and on a voluntary basis by the students. The Physics Show is led by Prof. Herbert Dreiner, Timo Poller, and Kristoffer Kerkhof from the Physics Institute.
