70 Years of CERN: Celebrate with us!
The European nuclear research centre CERN is turning 70, celebrate with us from 14-20 September 2024 at the University of Bonn. The major anniversary of particle physics research in Europe will be celebrated on a big stage in Berlin this week and we would also like to contribute to the celebrations in Bonn with a series of events.
The smallest particles up close at the Open Day at the Forschungs- und Technologiezentrum für Detektorphysik
At the open day at the Research and Technology Center for Detector Physics and Accelerator ELSA at the University of Bonn, almost 1,000 visitors were able to gain an insight into research into the physics of the smallest particles at the University of Bonn. The Particle World Network at the Bonn node and our Fellows were of course also represented there with various offers.
With particle detectors and soldering equipment in the Alps
From May 24-31, 2024, this year's Belle II Academy, a school for master's and doctoral students in particle physics, took place in Murnau (Bavaria).
DIY detector workshop for Fellows at the University of Bonn
On May 16, 2024, the Research and Technology Center for Detector Physics (FTD) at the University of Bonn hosted a workshop for pupils and students to build their own small particle detectors. The participants built their own small particle detectors under the direction of Sebastian Laudage (AG Prof. Florian Bernlochener) and Dr. Maike Hansen.
Particle café in April 2024 with Prof. Lena Funcke
On April 22, 2024, Prof. Lena Funcke was a guest at the Particle Café at the University of Bonn to talk to interested pupils and students.
Science communication workshop at the Physics Center Bad Honnef
From April 15 to 17, 2024, the workshop on communicating the physics of the smallest particles took place at the Physics Center in Bad Honnef. In theoretical and practical sessions, the participants were given various methods and materials to successfully communicate particle physics.
Fellows from Bonn send self-built Cosmic Watch detectors into the stratosphere
Homemade Cosmic Watch detectors were sent into the stratosphere by two Fellows from Bonn (Jana Pöhler and Marvin Gehrke) and their physics class using a weather balloon.
